This weekend was an epic one! It was super busy and I literally only had two hours of sleep each day but it was well worth it. It was filled with my favorite things. Makeup, beauty talks, BBQ's, laughter and amazing conversations with like minded people. Some may say I did way too much this weekend but I believe I did just enough. My weekend was balanced. It was the perfect combination of family, friends, makeup clients, coaching cheerleading practice, stimulating conversations and GOD.
The Connection
With everything I had to get accomplished this weekend it really had me thinking about the importance of balance when working in this industry. As a makeup artist I can have long hours and forget to pour into myself. We spend most of our time pouring into others and we don't realize how powerful that it is. It's not only powerful in a good way but in a bad way. We may be changing and affecting lives through the stroke of a brush but just as much as your energy can affect a person their energy can affect you. I will break this down for you. Have you ever noticed that most makeup artists have ongoing clients that stay with them for YEARS!? I mean literally remain their client through out their whole career. Celebrity and legendary makeup artist Sam Fine has clients like Queen Latifah and Vanessa Williams who have been with him for years. Or we have Renny Vasquez who has been doing the music artist Brandy since I can remember. These are just a few public examples but in my own career I have clients like Beatrice who I had a strong connection with when I did makeup for her wedding and 2.5 years later we are great friends and she books me every time she needs an artist. I also have clients like style expert
Denise Caldwell who I have worked with since the beginning of my career. I have literally filled my TV
resume because of this amazing woman. She is not only a client but she has become a big sister. These two scenarios don't happen because we are playing in makeup. It happens because when you are a makeup artist or hair stylist or anything in the glam department you are connecting with people's energy. Some may not think its that deep but it is that deep. The transference of energy in a persons everyday life happens any time you come in contact with people so why wouldn't it be 10 times stronger when I'm literally painting someones energy into a good place with every stroke of my brush?

Energy
Energy can be good and energy can be bad so life balance is important to creating self preservation of your energy. When dealing with some clients you may realize doing that persons makeup or hair physically drains you. This does not happen because it was a lot of work but because that persons "energy" was a lot of work. It literally sucked you dry! Or you may notice you link up with a client, worked for 12 hours running around from place to place doing touch ups but yet at the end of the day you leave rejuvenated and fresh! That is no coincidence that is ENERGY! Through my 'happiness journey' I have developed practices that help me balance and center my life. I have a morning ritual which I will get into shortly. I then eat foods in the morning that create good vibrations. You might be thinking did she just say her food vibrates? Yes I did! Every single thing we put in our body has positive or negative vibrations/energy but I'm not going to get too deep on this post lol. I will break it down another day. I also pray for my clients. Before I enter into my clients home or space I pray. I pray over my hands, I pray for my client, I pray that we both learn from each other during this time spent together and I pray that I am able to lift their spirit even higher then it is when I arrive. Another practice I am adamant about is "me time". That can be going to get my nails done, going out with my friends or just simply being still. I have to do things that make me happy so I can continue to do what God has put me here to do. So if that means taking time to have dinner with friends or take a walk or go shopping I do it. "Me time" is vital to sustaining your energy.

How To Align
My morning ritual is very simple. Wake up and pray. Then I turn on my positive vibrations playlist which is filled with Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington. Their music makes my energy light and happy. Some may not realize it but music alters moods and energy so it is important to feed your spirit with good tunes. In this morning ritual that I have developed I drink tea and sit for a moment to reflect on what I am grateful for. Gratitude can put your spirit in a place of happiness and can also help you combat negative energy through out the day when life starts happening. With all these things done on a daily basis it builds my spiritual armor and I am able to pour into people through my craft with out subtracting from my cup.

I am very connected spiritually to what I do for a living. Every single client, job, television show or wedding I am able to find my higher power working right along side me. So with me being so connected spiritually I must make sure all energy systems are well oiled and gassed up. What are you doing to make sure every client gets not only your best work but your best energy? How do you stay balanced between career and personal? What are your positive energy rituals that help you stay in a good place? Reply in the comments below so we can all help each other stay beautifully and spiritually balanced.
Beautifully devoted,
Tish
